You definitely covered all the bases this morning, Kareem, although I know you’re a basketball star. So many heartwarming moments to help us make it through the current morass. Thank you again, for all you do to educate and uplift us.
Vice-President Vance is a foolish man. Kareem's response to Vance's message to young men is classic. The persuasive take in Kareem's opinion confirms my belief that politicians are not our greatest thinkers despite their college degrees. However, their messages are dangerous if the recipients consider them valid because of their position. A fool leading lazy non-thinkers into believing there is truth in the message. It is a deliberate act of indoctrination to sustain the mission of the head bigot. It is frustrating to know that these non-thinkers are part of that 47% who support Republican fascism. The task ahead for the Resistance is not easy, but we clearly understand where we are.
SUPPORT THE FEBRUARY 28TH. ECONOMIC BOYCOTT IS SOMETHING WE ALL CAN DO!
I'm struck by the juxtaposition of the emotions shown by the boys in the two videos and the J.D. Vance drivel you quoted. The first boy was so tender when he took the dog from his father, and was so clearly completely physiologically overwhelmed by emotion and depth of feeling (shout-out to your misread quote); the other two boys were being appropriately "competitive," but were so excited when their tricks were successful, and at one point, even hugged each other in what was surely a celebration of the culmination of many hours of previous, unsuccessful takes. The *boys* were not afraid or ashamed to show their emotions. The "men" Vance was referring to apparently are. And that's really heartbreaking for all those little boys out there who are trying to grow up in this confusing world.
Loosing the penny will cost in inflation. Corporations will raise their prices by 4 cents or 3, etc to reach the nickel mark. I seriously doubt they will reduce by 4 cents, etc. to reach the nickel or 5 cent mark.
Damn if those kids getting puppies in videos don’t melt your heart.
Boycott, protest, resist! I am so tired of this regime making people’s life hell. No empathy or love for anyone, just a love for money and power.
I lived in a country (Norway) that log ago banished it's essentially no-value coins while keeping the valuation in the prices. When all the items in a purchase are added up, what you pay is rounded to the nearest existing coin, up or down. For example, 1.02 is rounded down to 1.0, but 1.03 is rounded up to 1.05. Over the long haul it all evens out. Eliminating the nickle is more problematic than ditching the penny, both because it creates a bigger gap between coins and the problem you have with the quarter if you keep the dime. Maybe reformulate the nickle so it is cheap? Keeping the penny while eliminating the nickle would just add to the load of almost valueless coins in your pocket.
Regarding masculinity, I'm a 73 year old male. I thought we dealt with this in the early 70's. It's disheartening to see the ignorance of the younger generation of males.
The Hillbilly talking about anything masculine is totally pathetic. As soon as I started reading about his words and the diminishing masculinity of the American male, the image that immediately came to mind was his picture all dressed up as a female and the awfully drawn thick black eye liner. He and his playmates must have their little brainstorming sessions to decide which topic will be their talking point this week to further bring the poor masulinity-damaged males into their fold of miscreants.
About the price of eggs. I did my grocery shopping Saturday. The medium size brown eggs were $5.99/dozen. And yes. I bought 1 dozen. Poor chickens . 🐓 I hope they get well soon.
The two boys and all their tricks. Brilliant. It's always enlightening to see young kids experiment with things and accomplish their ideas. They will either be the scientists/entrepreneurs/athletes of the future, not withstanding exposure to the litterbox parasite. And how the parasitic creature makes you bolder. How do they know that? I actually think it's from kissing all those animals on the YouTube shorts. 💋 Animals have their noses and faces to the ground and then humans keep kissing them. Hmmm. Just my early morning thoughts.
The Jazz singer has a very lovely voice and reminded that one of the very best singers left the earth yesterday. Roberta Flack. R.I.P. 🌹🌹
TY, Susan Comer, for your reply! I also celebrate the life and music of Roberta Flack. She brought comfort and calm with her music and empathy. I’m also grateful for Mr. Abdul-Jabbar’s takedown of VP Vance’s winks and nods to “the boys” on the “fun” of jokes likely full of put downs on people unlike themselves to reinforce their superiority complex. In his book, SOMETHING IN THE WOODS LOVES YOU, Jarod K. Anderson reflects at length on the doctrine (not inherent to men) of toxic masculinity. It’s in the chapter, “Fieldmouse.” Toward the end he asks, “What do we give-up when we adopt the numb, self-obsessed ego and cruel disdain of toxic masculinity as our key cultural values?” He answers, “Wonder.” Anderson, Abdul-Jabbar, and many other authentically strong men—not the dictators Ruth Ben-Ghiat analyzes in her book STRONGMEN—could make the world better fast by building community and starting a counter movement.
A comprehensive list of companies that need to be boycotted permanently would be much appreciated
I am a retired senior living on only my social security check each month
I want to support the companies that deserve my hard earned money and never support the companies that don’t have the best interest of our grandchildren in mind meaning our continued future with clean air and water, social justice for all and a safe and clean environment to live in no matter who you are
So far I only know that Costco is a good company
Any other companies that we can support?
Thank you Mr Abdul-Jabbar for your wise words and thoughtful commentary
I look forward to hearing from you every week to put a grounding perspective on the goings on
Laughed out loud: "Oddly, people who take risks think that they should be rewarded for their boldness and are shocked when their risk doesn’t pay off. Apparently, they don’t understand the definition of risk."
Christie Dashiell’s haunting song ends with, “This can’t be how it ends.” A plea, not a promise, and deeply appropriate this week, as this country’s President led us into alliance with an axis of evil. Will our hearts ever again swell at how far we have come when we hear The Star Spangled Banner? Or must we take a knee?
Having just lost a beloved pet last week, the video of the boy receiving a puppy touched my heart DEEPLY. Thank you, Kareem. Yeah, i cried a little. I've lost one of my best friends.
Thanks for being in our corner, Kareem. I like to think I’ve taught my son (and daughter) the same values and true common sense that you hold. Thank you for calling out toxic masculinity. I’m sure your parents were infinitely proud of the boy they helped shape into a man.
I appreciate the heads up on the grassroots efforts like the 2/28 boycott. I’ve never really engaged in much social media so I was unaware- good to know.
I like and support the "don't buy a thing on Feb 28th. But, imagine if all federal civil service worker's (including ATC) walked off the job till that "Toddler in a Tesla" was fired. Grounding Mr. POSER for a while would also save the taxpayers millions. The power of the people would be on full display! Even better...demand Trump's resignation. Now that would restore my faith in this country.
J.D Vance. Obviously a man with a low sense of masculinity who feels compelled toproject that insecurity on the rest of the male population. A "real" man would at least have a spine instead of "no shame" and not kneel down to kiss President Poser's butt. Then again, I guess selling one's soul has it's immediate reward. VP or not, he still has dinkleberrys on his nose!
I agree, a real man stands up for what is right, as does a real woman. Based on the clowns they have approved, there are no real men among the Republicans in the Senate. (There are 2 real women)

Dear Kareem - Reading you in the morning reminds me of the best in humankind. So - thank you!

Pro jazz singer here to say thank you for spreading the word about vocal jazz! And, as always, thank you for your wisdom and insight.

Love trumps hate.

A museum in Minneapolis stopped taking pennies about 20 years ago, rounding up or down the same way, and said the same thing, that it all evens out.
I agree with you there. Corporations here would always want to round up. I sure don’t want to see plastic coins. Lol

Support your local small companies not the very large nationally-known ones. And just stay home or go for a walk and do no shopping on that day.

If you haven't seen it, the Hazel Scott documentary will prompt nostalgia and discovery.
