Great work, Coach, and thank you for putting in the work, and over your lifetime, simply monumental in scope and scale, the importance of your voice on urgent and extreme matters is the imperative of our time now as it was at The Cleveland Summit. The depth of ignorance regarding anti-Semitism among a few NBA players is as astounding as it is troubling, is it willful ignorance, perhaps, but profound ignorance it is. In a previous post, I cited the 2 Jewish kids who died in Mississippi fighting for Black voting rights. Too many have forgotten that. How many NBA players know that Chuck Cooper was the first Black player to play in an NBA game in 1950, his coach who drafted him was Arnold Jacob Auerbach, only known as "Red" and he was Jewish, as was David Stern and the guy at the helm now. Bill Russell's best pal was a Jew. Anti-Semitism and it's Siamese twin racism have no place in any society and absolutely should not find quarter in the NBA! When 72% of the players in the NBA today are African-Americans and there are no African-American men on either roster in today's World Series game is another story completely! (The clarifying point here is the Black players in the WS were not born in the US!) Let's just not ignore the Black-Jewish symbiosis factoring into that NBA success, but rather celebrate and honor it! Or, at the very paltry least, acknowledge it!
I’ve often wondered, even with fewer than 475 potential fraud cases out of more than 25 million votes, how many fraudulently voted Republican and how many fraudulently voted Democratic? Does corporate media just go along with the implied assumption that if there’s fraud it’s by Democrats? This is similar to the assumption (that even Democrats themselves seem to accept): if you proudly display the flag you must be a so-called “conservative.” It’s public relations ineptitude and laziness like this that keeps Democrats in the political and media backseat.
Nothing is more dangerous than these 2 human characteristics:
Conscientious stupidity or sincere ignorance.
Martin Luther King Jr.
I would add a third - intentional evil. We must all vote if we are to rid our nation of the scumbags who want to rule. The picture of Lake embracing dt made me want to throw up. She is no better than he. Spouts rumors, innuendo, & outright lies.
All hail Rock N Roll. Jerry Lee Lewis was one talented & wild man. And let's please stop judging a person for his or her behavior from decades ago. JLL was born in 1935 in Louisiana. What is unacceptable today was probably both tolerated & legal then. Appreciate his music and thank him. RIP.
The attack on Paul Pelosi (by an illegal person - Canadian) shows the depths to which the gop has sunk. Their glee at the attack, injuries & spreading of untruths, gossip & innuendo reveals, once again, the abject inhumanity & idiocy of their so-called leaders. And for those who follow these people, you have become what they are because you have accepted their doctrine. So tired of it all.
From the mouths of babes. Pretty little Sherry. Just wants her divorced parents to be happy. We all should be.
And as for KI, his anti-Semitism & bogus mea culpa, he can join the afore-mentioned followers to the dark side eternally. His donation of $500K is nothing to him. Takes approximately 5 quarters to earn that $$.
And Musk. Should we be concerned that he received funding for his Twitter ownership from a Saudi royal? Chief Twit! How appropriate. Love that.
The most important thing in life is to love and respect each other and VOTE out the scum that has infected our nation.
Thank you Kareem for your wise words. Good health & peace to you always.
What a scary week. Incredible prologue, and hats off to you for all the research you did, I felt exhaustion just visualising it. Typo police: 'breach' not 'breech.' In general terms, the fact that the GOP no longer has any boundaries is completely established. What is scarier to me is that right now, Brazil's elections appear to be more stable than ours. I hope Twitter tanks: the only message Musk will hear is one aimed directly at his pocketbook - I am betting that along with the new Substack Chat, alternative platforms will be popping up everywhere. I believe Barkley and Shaq are both right wingers, but apparently, have kept some form of reason; you're right to lend them support. I am crossing every finger I have for next Tuesday. I have never hoped for pollsters to be wrong more fervently than this year. Oh, yeah, one more thing: you mentioned felons voting; I may have said this before, but, from my perspective, any culture claiming to be democratic MUST guarantee the right to vote as sacrosanct, inalienable and irrevocable.
Brand new subscriber, glad I found this and signed for a year subscription. This was excellent replacement for failed 4th estate on commentary and facts/data. Thank you
Boy all these topics are so appropriate for discussion, and so troubling. I’ll choose Kareem’s comments about Twitter charging $20 for memberships.
I dislike Elon Musk and I am one of the few people, I guess, who isn’t on Twitter. I will say that sometimes I wish ALL social media platforms are behind a pay wall. The privacy protections are one of the reasons, as we do not need to be constantly marketed to when we are paying for the service. But most importantly, whenever I pay for the privilege of being in a community, like this one, the comments are more respectful and the discourse is much more civilized. Much like this community, I pay money to the The Athletic, NY Times and Washington Post and to some degree each community is much more civilized than say, Facebook, with the most civilized discourse in forums like this where you CANNOT comment unless you have paid.
So I am interested where Twitter is going. I tend to think he will charge users with large followers, with Joe Public getting on the service for free. That might sound like a good populist solution, but I predict that is likely the worst way to ensure civilized discussion. Everyone should see the benefit and pay in my humble opinion. Thanks for considering my thoughts.
Great job, sir. The four hrs you spent voting put you into an entirely new category. I did the same, and have done so for decades. If everyone believed how much their vote counts, and took the time to really think about their vote, we'd be sailing along in a different and better world. The use of "initiatives" in many states, notably CA and AZ, is crazy stupid because people are making decisions about how to run huge governments, how to tax, or not tax, with about five minutes of research or ten seconds watching a TV ad. I could go on for hours. Also, I think the responses below are excellent. People are paying attention to you, Kareem. I was in graduate school at UCLA when I became aware of you, rising a foot above me in an elevator, and have always known you to be a smart guy. But you have exceeded my positive views about you by multiples in your blog.
Kareem, Isnt our Basketball Comish Jewish? I'm Jewish. Why is he letting Irving participate in a league full of good people?Lord have mercy, whats next in this looney country.I live in Texas, I voted early, I voted carefully. We have a problem. Its called "hate".Too much.Tribal silos.God bless the child in the video.Out of the mouths of babes...literally.
For any who have not seen it, the September installment of Frontline on PBS shows the danger we face. Search for Frontline Documentaries. Then select the documentary "Lies, Politics, and Democracy". The battle over the Twittersphere isn't over, but it is just a skirmish compared to what may be coming.
Like you, Kareem, I spent a few hours researching not only the myriad propositions, but also the retention of a slew of judges! If people like Kari Lake, Mark Finchem, and Tom Horne are elected to office here in Arizona, instead of the wild west, we'll be the woeful west! As much as I don't like to categorize groups, the voters who subscribe to those candidates' anti-democratic views deserve categorization as either naively ignorant or purposely deplorable!

Great to see Shaq, Charles, and Reggie weigh in so eloquently on Kyrie. Big shoutout to KAJ, who was the FIRST athlete to step up.
Outstanding Kareem. Coach would be proud.

Nobody makes the case for requiring athletes to stay in school and complete a rigorous degree program better than Kyrie Irving.

Nets just announced they have suspended Kyrie Irving for at least 5 games without pay because he refuses to say he does not have anti-Semiti beliefs.

Very happy to have read that Jumpstart cartoonist Robb Armstrong just left Twitter. Can’t wait for the TV version of Jumpstart. Robb gets it.
I really enjoy reading your take on issues in our country! Another HOME RUN!!
Thank you for your voice of reason amidst so much confusion and crazy information being thrown about.
I want to tell everyone “be very careful what you believe because what you believe puts you on either a clear trajectory or into chaos and confusion.”
Democracy is a gift that can be lost if people don’t wise up.
