- The following paragraph is one of the most important paragraphs you've written Kareem. IMHO. Agree 1,000%. Bravo!

- "Yes, many men would agree with his sexist assessment, who measure a woman’s worth based on her placement on their arbitrary Attractiveness Scale. But those are not the kind of people we should be electing into public office, not just because their ideas are degrading and demeaning, but because they are so stuck in the past that they are incapable of being a leader in a modern society. They are anchors to progress when we need jet propulsion."

Very glad to start my day with your wisdom, Kareem. And to know that I am not alone in finding change difficult. Your video break was delightful and the musical selection encouraged me to relax and enjoy. Saving democracy is the challenge we all face today, and it’s good to know you’re on the job.

Elon Musk’s repugnant posts seem finally enough to drive off major corporate advertisers. Perhaps it’s too much to hope that corporate political donors might respond in a similar manner to the repugnance of the GOP, which is on ever more conspicuous display.

I was struck by the temerity it took for you to make your video break an ad from Apple. Apple does not need any of our help in any way shape or form, and you know that as well as any of us. However, I had to admit that when I watched the video I really liked it - even though it was corny the video-within-the-video format was disarmingly charming.

You taught me a lesson. Accept beauty and joy from wherever it comes - that's not selling out, that's enjoying life. Nobody is going to think of you as an Apple apologist because you are too clearly an independent thinker. That's a good example for all of us.

Good morning Mr. Abdul Jabbar, This is my first time writing in response to one if your fantastic newsletters. I have enjoyed every one. I love your humor, your style of writing, your choice of topics. I really want to thank you for bringing common sense and hope for our country to my email box . I have been a liberal democrat my whole life (I am 73 years old), and I have to admit there are times when I just can't take anymore of the MAGA Republicans, and I have to tune to it all out to keep my sanity. Your letters bring me back to the fight, especially today's letter. Thank you for being there for all of us. I am sharing this with as many friends as I can today. Your voice is so important. Please keep going.

Re: Omar's appearance

People (men and some women) always resort to negative comments about a woman's appearance when they have nothing of substance to say. Sickening.

I think you shut down the Internet today with all your comments. It wouldn't even allow me to respond. See what an influence you have. About change. It is difficult sometimes, but think about how boring life would be without it. We wouldn't be able to have new flavors of ice cream, Oreos, team uniforms, new music, etc. And for those who resist it and want to travel backwards, remember the difference between conservatives & the more liberal among us. The cons see life in terms of black & white, have rigidly-held beliefs and cannot or will not allow newness into their hollow shells, unless of course it's in the form of a Hollywood movie or a TV reality show.

And as to McCarthy - what a loser. Seriously! His loud proclamations and excessive gestures. And where was this? At Cambridge? Why are they applauding him? Put him in the fields to eke out a living. No. Better yet. Send him to Florida to pick grapefruit because desanctimonious ridded the state of its hated immigrant population who actually keep the agricultural products moving along to feed the nation. What a waste.

Love how you describe X nee Twitter. And Musk's mind seems to be disintegrating rapidly like that of his compadre, agent orange. Constant pressure will do that to humans.

Thank you for the wonderful music from Henry Mancini. Moon River. Wider than a mile. Sorry. Wrong song, but you know. The clips from the film showing Sean Connery, my favorite Scot and Richard Harris, my favorite Irish. What a combo. And for Irish music, the predecessor to American Blue Grass.

Don't know if anyone saw the so-called debate on Faux last night, but I caught bits during breaks of the best thing to come from Florida. The Heat beat the Pacers. Jimmy B had 36 points and was fierce as ever. Better than any debate. And the Warriors also won. Weird. 4 players had 13 points each and Steph doubled that with 26. Ready to go back to bed now. It's only 5:30.

One more thing. The person Samuels, running against Rep Ilhan Omar. In the days of liberation for women, we referred to men like that as MCP. Especially emphasize the P. That's it.

Thank you for your words and wisdom and for allowing all of us space to express our thoughts. You are an American Treasure.

Are we SURE Samuels is a Democrat? I had not paid attention to the prospects for Omar in the upcoming primaries, but the only thing that didn’t totally surprise me was his age. I would have put money on him being a white, Republican, tRumpish, 50-70 “Christian” male.

Still struggling to accept the changes I see in the mirror and feel in my knee as I climb the stairs, but heartened by the words of the late John Lewis and determined not to be defined by age. With it comes wisdom , one hopes. Except for those who refuse to read like Mr. McCarthy.

Never paid attention to Mr. Musk after

his ill-fated public attempt to demonstrate the durability of his electric vehicles window that went awry.

So surprised to read your explanation of the Molly Maguires , after having lived in western Pennsylvania as a child I was aware of the union/corporate skirmishes. I did not know about these specific events. The Guilded Age on HBO does touch on the conflict.

Wonderful video break and sweet soothing music. I took your advice and closed my eyes.

Ah, Kareem, the old Sears and JCP doorstops of a catalog and the adolescent boy's intro to pornography. It didn't take long after one arrived that they would automatically fall open to women's lingerie and foundation garment section.

RE: Ilhan Omar ... Despite being a Democrat, I'm not a fan of her politics. Her physical attractiveness is of course immaterial and has less than no place in the calculus of deciding to vote for or against her. If this idiot primarying her isn't handsome enough to make Robert Redford look like Shrek in comparison, he has no room to talk. And, for what little worth it may have, to me, Rep. Omar is attractive. Vote for the mind and its workings, not for the face, boobs and butt.

As for our boy Kevin, I wonder what he has to say about Oklahoma. The US herded the indigenous nations of the Southeast there, "giving" it to the Cherokees, Chickasaws, Choctaws and others in perpetuity...with "perpetuity" meaning about 60 or so years before Washington, in its wisdom(?) reneged and gave Oklahoma to the whites lined up on its borders in the Oklahoma Land Rush. Kinda gives the lie to the old "Indian giver" slur, wouldn't you say?

Spanish American War ...and Cuba, but we gave that back. (Tips hat to Moss Hart).

Don't forget the Alamo, we got Texas through that little spat with Santa Anna.

We also picked up a lot of Pacific Territory from other colonial powers as a result of WWII, though we installed puppet "independent" governments there subsequently (Marshall Islands, Mariana Islands, Caroline Islands), nor stuff we just took without war such as American Samoa.\

Thank you for posting the video break! It is touching and tells a story better than much longer films!
