Kareem. Remember the MacMartin Pre-school scandal in the 1980s & the hysteria of sexual torture & alleged satanic ritual sexual abuse of children? None of it was true, but look at all the lives it ruined. What is there about sexuality that frightens (allegedly) so many conservatives? Are some of them in the closet & can't come out because the darkness is so normal & comforting to them? OMG! What would happen if their real personas were exposed to the light. Would they wither & die?

Of course it's more important that rep boebert teach her boys how to use guns than how to prevent pregnancy or even sexual responsibility. What a waste!

And perhaps the worst of all right now is desanctimonious. Watching him speak with his

smug look reminds me of one of the worst cult leaders of our time. Jim Jones. Jonestown. Never forget. We should be thoroughly investigating what ds did during his time at Guantanamo. How much torture did he gleefully witness? He is an evil man & needs to be exposed for who & what he really is.

And for Lucifer's twin Cruz. For the life of me, why is he still making stupid comments about Dr. Fauci? So he can appear even more attached to some kind of anti-medical radicalism? Wait until he needs emergency medical intervention. And the blonde from GA. She is the epitome of the need for better education in this country. Just disgusting!

The bright note was young Haley & her adoption. How sweet & wonderful for her.

Thank you Kareem. Keep the spotlight where it needs to be. The immorality & illegality of what the idiots are doing is appalling.

Thanks so much for the two videos, each cheer inducing in their own way.

On the Minnesota school meal initiative, while it's true that there are many ways people can get food, if you study food insecurity, you will realize that there are significant barriers to get "free" food. One barrier is that it can take a lot of time and transportation money to get to a food bank. That's a real cost for an hourly worker. Second is the stigma. Waiting on line for food is stigmatizing and people don't want to risk being seen. Finally, if people are undocumented, there is fear in providing any information to food banks, some of which will ask for details, not to report anyone, but for their own internal reasons.

"Our job is to make sure the little kid never walks alone."

I'm choked-up after reading that -- it's exactly what our mission should be.

The GOP attacks on drag and transgender rights and other "little kids" are making me think I need to dig up my old pink triangle button from the 80's with Martin Niemoller's chilling lines that open with "First they came for the Socialists, but I was not a Socialist, so I did not speak up." Well, first they came for the drag shows and the queer community. But we should none of us lull ourselves into thinking it won't be us and our friends and families down the road.

Thank you, Kareem, for always speaking up, and setting an example for all of us who read your posts.

I am extremely upset about developments in Idaho. If a hospital in a rural area stops providing services to women delivering babies, it is risking the lives of both the women and the babies. The women must drive to far-away hospitals or have at home deliveries. I do not blame the hospitals or the doctors; the blame belongs to the legislators who voted for this nightmare scenario. I cannot find the invective with which to condemn them—they worship the fetus and see women as ambulatory wombs, vessels for child-creating without any rights of their own. The cruelty is stunning.

Thank you for your column. You are the most articulate and thoughtful reasoner I have ever read. You provide the welcome and necessary relief from the so-called “news” programs on TV, radio, and even most newspapers. Thank you for keeping me informed-- and a bit hopeful.

i feel like you function at a level way beyond the common person. such a broad swath of issues and artistry to share. i am guessing you have a true "team" of people (paid and unpaid) helping you "produce" this "column". i don't want a peek behind the scenes at the "sausage making", i just hope you can SUSTAIN your pace. wow, it's amazing stuff for educated people.

Once again, thank you Kareem for all the time and energy you spend enlightening me. I had never heard of Beth Hart and found her performance a fabulous feminist anthem. And her piano playing blew me away as we used to say. My former piano teacher Ned will praise you for re-encouraging me to practice, practice, practice!

Yes, not just people choosing to live their life with (or without) Christian morality as you put it, but actual legislation, intimidation and choking of rights. I'll say it again, it's the American Christian version of Sharia law building momentum in America: "American Sharia". And it should be discussed and labelled as such to help put the brakes on it and mobilize a strong public outcry/fight.

Too often, uninformed opinions are presented as "facts" and facts are dismissed as "opinions". You present well-informed opinions that I take seriously even if I don't agree because you do your homework. And where else am I going to find an appropriate reference to the Borg? I look forward to your presentations...DP

Thank you for your insight. I love your open to today’s post.

Next time you are in DC swing by the Smithsonian Zoo. They have Komodo Dragons. One of my favorite animals. If you are lucky you can catch them feeding the dragons. They get whole turkeys.

Great to see you celebrating LaBron’s milestone. Done with enthusiasm and class!

Kareem—When discussing the long history of comedians doing drag, you left out Flip Wilson. He was huge.

I appreciate your commentary and I’m currently reading one of your Holmes books. One question: are crimes against women not considered hate crimes? Every day I read about a man killing a woman, that he was involved with. Canada counts this as femicide.. It’s an ongoing explosion of misogyny and violence, and yet is it really omitted from the hate crime statistics?

" If DeSantis—and other Republican sex gatekeepers—want to be consistent, shouldn’t they be going after movie theaters, streaming services, and movie studios with sexual content? They won’t, not when they can bully the little kid on their way home from school." From your lips to God's ears, but I'd be more worried that this a toe in the water.
