I wonder how many other companies are doing this. It really doesn't surprise me since companies like Nestle, Hershey, and others have bought their cocoa beans from West African farmers that use enslaved people.

Nestle's sugar delivery program is racist and criminal in my view. There are countries in Africa dealing with famine and malnourished children depend on the nations of the world to come to their aid. That is one of the tragedies of the Ukraine war as the delivery of wholesome grain has been affected, which further places Nestle's program as an alternative. To me, genocide takes many forms, and African children developing life-threatening conditions due to an addiction to sugary substances is an intentional atrocity. Perhaps the United Nations will take note of this potential tragedy and address the issue.

Oh I always love seeing and reading what you find, on what you comment and the clips.

In no order:

- one can be a lumpy old person and still passionate and find love! Stories of those in their 80s or older who reconnect with their first loves are grand. Those of us who don’t fit the image of the featured “goldens” have. What we need is changing the language to help change perception.

- Oh that my short fingers could reach the keys! I hope he continues playing.

- Racism in good. In coaching. The latter: there were complaints over time yes? Why no action sooner? It’s as bad as

-the influence of Donald on those who are GOP voters. Trusted? A man who cheats small businesses? Who has harmed so many lives? Yes. I fear the MAGA Party voters.

Now I’ll go breathe.

Do you remember back in the 1970s when Nestlé tried to convince women in Africa not to breast-feed because their milk powder was superior? Do you remember how sick the children got? It was a big controversy back then and it appears that they’re up to their same practices. Baby formula should never have sugar. Children should not be fed sugar that is not naturally occurring. Sugar is a neurotoxin. It’s really sad to see formula on American shelves with sugar. I wish there was more of an outrage about this because this impacts childhood development.

To me, Trump only serves one purpose that is beneficial; he is the canary in the coal mine. He is revealing to the world just how sick the US has become. Your neighbours to the north see it, we are very concerned about the direction of the country. Hopefully, the cackle and squawk’s from the canary can wake people up before it’s too late.

There is more to the Trump-Johnson announcement about a law to assure that only citizens vote. In fact, they are proposing that voters must prove their citizenship in order to vote. For native-born Americans, this means having a valid copy of your birth certificate…and if we think “voter identification” is a form of voter suppression, imagine the barriers to locating a birth certificate. This would be nearly impossible for people who have experienced homelessness, as they often lose such documentation as they move from couch to couch to shelter or the streets. How about elderly people from rural areas who might have been born at home (my father is one such example)? Or older folks who have lost their birth certificates decades ago and now find that the original document is lost due to fire, flood or disorganized government offices.

This is much more nefarious and duplicitous than it seems. Luckily (I hope) it will never pass before this election. But imagine if the GOP were to gain control of the House, Senate and White House?!?!

I worked at Nestle in Vevey, CH, 30 years ago, and despite the passage of time (there are things in that building I am confident will remain untouched for centuries to come,) I will answer the racism question with a multiple choice.: a. Probably b. Quite likely c. Hell, Yes.

Thanks for the Phil Ochs song. His "When I'm Gone" kind of sums it all up.

Kareem. Just wanted to add a very sad short note. Rev. Cecil Williams, co-founder of Glide Memorial in San Francisco just died at age 94. A true example of what it means to serve the community and to love across all the boundaries.

R I.P. Brother Cecil. I will always remember your warmth and kindness.♥️

Thanks for the Phil Ochs. Brings back memories of a performance at the Ash Grove in L.A. and a number of encounters over the years, the last a dinner together with his wife, who worked in the same office as my girlfriend. A truly gifted, kind, and generous man and a terrific songwriter.

So Nestle must have a short memory or has had that memory clouded by greed. In the 1970's through the early '80s Nestle targeted women in low and middle income countries (3rd world) for sales of baby formula. They would give communities free samples, mothers' milk would dry up so they would need to use formula - many in countries where there wasn't access to clean water. It was estimated that over 200,000 babies died a year as a result. (https://voxdev.org/topic/health/deadly-toll-marketing-infant-formula-low-and-middle-income-countries) A boycott in the early '80's was so significant - across many product lines - that Nestle stopped this practice. Perhaps it is time to remind them of this?

Because this community is empathic, I thought I'd share - went to see Rhiannon Giddens last night; an amazingly talented human if you haven't come across her work. Her song, Another Wasted Life, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQ2_2A4vP4I) is a protest song and asks us to consider the work of the Innocence Project. Change can come if we participate - today's jukebox song is an example.
